Mother
by Three
Age Group: Adult
A pheasant, plumed resplendent,
Perched on a bough, ventures to earth,
To peck the tender fallen seeds
Among the loam.
A flash of russet,
The sign of Algiz in merkstave,
Taker of life,
He falls.
Three young, of flame-red pelt
Peer warily from the cool earth
To greet the bearer of good things,
Mother of them all.
The warmth of her pelt,
The sign of Algiz proper,
Giver of life,
She provides.
Author's Notes: A meditation on The Goddess as she presented to me, as the spirit of a vixen, at once a swift killer and a loving mother, taker of life and giver of life.
