Dawn of the Destroyer

by Singing Crow
 Age Group: Adult

Shiva awoke from a long, satisfying sleep, And stretched his arms wide towards the rising sun, He sipped the black coffee, strong, hot and deep, And watched the vapors rise, fade and become one.
He watched them vanish from sight, return to the air, And his reflection in the dark well stares unblinking, He smells the aroma that permeates his hands and hair, And looking towards the winter hills, He continues thinking.
He watches orchards with fruit rotting and buds soon to bloom, He considers man’s deeds of glory and the day man went blind, He watches the glowing sun, while mindful of the waxing moon, He ponders the weight of the confusion that ever plagues man’s mind.
He sees the fallen fruits of life, moistened by dew and by tears, The fallen limbs of trees and men, lost life forming the funeral pyre, Resonating with energy from the questions and hopes of all the years, The God raises his hand, turning death to life through hot, raging fire.
The dance of the roaring heat reflects in His glowing eyes, Light and wild energy burst forth from the eroding mass of decay, The blaze burns flesh and wood to ashes, ending the pain of all cries, Smoke rises to the wind, ashes fall to the earth and spirits dance and play.
For as beans crushed and liquefied give aroma and flavor strong, So the bodies destroyed release the souls that ride through life and sing, And from the winter ashes, swirling snow, moves the power of their song, As sun rises upon the fertile earth, the Destroyer creates the dream of spring.
Author's Notes: In honor of one of my patron dieties, Shiva, who trods upon ignorance and in his dance of fire creates new life through the devastation of the old. In pain and loss may you soon be blessed with hope and refreshing life. May the approach of spring be a time of fertility and joy as you journey through thie maze of this present life.
