The Transformation

Once upon a time there was a little girl named Beth,
Who dreamed many dreams of misfortune & death.
She dreamed so much she was afraid to sleep,
Afraid of who would die & who's left to weep.
Her fears were compounded when her mother talked,
"Satan's Spawn, it's with the devil you walk!
In the name of God I must cause you pain,
With blackened eye, it's salvation you'll gain.
You're not of my flesh", she'd always say,
"We must beat Satan out, it's the only way."
Damn the religion which abuses the child,
In the name of salvation, Christians run wild.
They torture & maim to save your soul,
Rip you apart, leaving emotions unwhole.
But, Little One, it's not too late,
To dispel all feelings of anger & hate.
After years of abuse both day & night,
I've found a new Way, surrounded by Light.
My new Wiccan family has shown me the Path,
Now filled with love, now empty of wrath.
With an inner glow, I can proudly stand,
With love in my heart & outstrtched hands.
I've embraced you all, I've found a home,
My search for truth over, no need to roam.
I've found an answer to these odd dreams,
A gift of the future, not Satanic schemes.
So excuse my ignorance, I've much to learn,
Knowledge awaits me, it's my time to earn.
So hear these words which I do say,
I'll stand by the Craft both night &day.
Author's Notes: I wrote this many many moons ago. It was a kind of catharsis for me. I remember writing the first 2 lines, after that--nothing, until it was finished. When I read the words which I wrote, I was in shock. I think it was my soul cleansing itself of theabuse I lived through. So, while it starts out gloomy and ugly, it turns out on a very positive note.
