We Are Medusa's Daughters

Age Group: Adult
Medusa is crying outside of my window.
She uses the night’s wind to project an angry and sorrowful urgency to Her voice.
“Why did you forget Me, daughters?” She wails.
“How could you forget your Mother?”
As children, we all knew Her.
Our earthly mothers’ serpentine tresses would twist around our fingers as we were caressed towards sleep.
…..to dream of our true purpose.
Womanhood urgently initiated us.
Dark blood splattered its ancient patterns.
We were magnificent.
We were utterly beautiful.
We were now fit to embrace the primal power to turn men into stone.
…..or anything else we wanted.
Virginity faded slowly.
There was never this one abrupt moment that caused it to cease.
We chose the fantasies in our minds.
We chose the costumes of temptation.
We chose the sacred temple in which to defile whatever god we chose.
…..and we laughed, even when we were terrified.
We became mothers.
We watched in horror as our heads became severed in the battle.
…..and we forgot that we were ever daughters ourselves.
Our children became Giants,
And they flew away on elegant wings of beautiful self-reliance.
Sometimes they were used.
Sometimes they were the users.
But still, they were the products of our blood.
…..and we are eternally their mothers, their Goddess.
We stand alone, proud and powerfully mature.
Why do we still forget?
Why have we become like those frightful stone statues we have left in our wake?
…..impotent.
Hearken to the wind, the voice of your Mother.
Do not forget Her sacred promises.
Do not let the world compromise Her beauty, Her power, Her magick.
…..for you have inherited more than just Her eyes.....you also possess Her soul.
