Night Music IV pt.2: New York Alive

by Ciaran

Age Group: Adult

Night Music IV part 2
New York Alive

Oh, my New York
Devourer of my soul

Oh, my New York
My resurrectionist,
my dirty lover

Oh, my New York
Do you have solace,
my confessor, my purple rose child?

Oh, my New York
Two razor lovers never-ending sweetness
sunflowers and electric visions from you
Shattering the blessed me eternal
My New York

We have come to worship, drinking
Of the 10th Ave. hooker disruptions
Dr. Martin from the Village, I’m lost
in the savory land of Ginsberg
Shameless chessmen here, always Here
My New York, My New York

Consuming engines and virgins
and whole grown men
Consuming flowers and sunshine
and students
Consuming television and CNN
and immigrants
Consuming poets and oil tankers
and museums
Consuming in Your glory, Holy, Holy

Rainbow children laughter licking my toes
We have come to walk the celestial battery
and darling Harlem to Lower East Side
The moment was hovering over the waters of the East River
as we plunged, screaming Pink Pussy Cat / Religious Sex
Aunt Kate, Queens, comes Freudian
Why are all your poems about sex
sex sex *** cock ass sex
Why do you love your mother?
Why do you love this city
My New York
I couldn’t tell her
There is a place behind your eyes where heaven opens up in you
and it makes my heart race, when you glance at me
A glance flowing over the bones of central park
Over the bones of Chinatown
Over the bones of the mosquito buildings
built so high they actually scrape the sky
Open to the bone / How do you like your marrow?
Muzzled Puerto drop crack smack
Special K christmas radio city
Oh, my precious kitty
Come to your iridescent brother
with switchblade roses
My New York

We have very dangerous eyes, you laugh
Creamy coming my blade
So many bones to open
Reach open hands quite touch the stars
blazing our violent love, our spacial visions
Perhaps to catch the sun rising across the Bay
setting the Hudson on fire beneath our burning sky

Author's Notes: This poem is second part of the 4th poem in a series I call Night Music. There are some rather absurd rules that I apply to myself when writing a Night Music poem:

1) Can only be written between the hours of 1am and 5 am.
2) I need to be in the "night music frame of mind." (I know it when I'm there)
3) I need to like the poem a lot.
