Rehearsing Freedom

Age Group: Adult
Running, running, running through fields of impatiens.
Her cotton skirts held between her sweaty palms.
Breathless, she rests beneath a tall and ancient pine,
Its rough bark tickling her skin and infusing her with calm.
Dreaming, dreaming, dreaming she looks up to the sky.
Cottony smudges of white, gentle sun's rays trickling through.
She accepts the warmth with cautious delight,
Her spirits hoping on sparrows' wings as they flew.
Breathing, breathing, breathing in the spicy springtime air.
A sonata of birdsong announces her destiny.
Although this day is not the when, the place is not the where.....
Soon she will not falter. Someday she will be free.
