There she sits, Miss Any Woman, on the
third barstool on the right, tucked safely
enough away in your friendly neighborhood
watering hole with a cozy name like
No Excuses, or The Sugar Shack, or
The Y Not. She motions to the bartender
to bring her a fifth glass of white wine.
She fidgets and waits as her fingertip
mindlessly smears around the bright kiss of
red lipstick she left behind on the rim of
the fourth glass.
She has been granted the gift of Sight on this
mostly forgettable evening. With absolute
clarity she gets a glimpse of the past in
the rippled reflection of her chardonnay.
"Mirror Morror in my glass, wasn't I a great
piece of ass?" She cackles as a substitute
for screaming and takes a quick gulp from
the goblet before she can divine the future.
Once she thought she saw a fractured angel
way back by the pool tables, urgent piss
threatening to pour into the crotch of her
silk purple panties. The angel was wailing
uncontrollably saying "*** it! I only
want to be human!"
Miss Any Woman presently stumbles off of
her barstool, twisting her ankle on
a spent peanut shell in her Aigner
pumps. She collapses into the plaid
flannelled arms of the stranger beside
her.
"Please don't let me fall. It's just that
I'm so in love with you I can't
stand up."
