A hand stretched out in waiting
Hold it is all I ask
I see you stare back at me
As if it's a forbidden task
To love myself
To be loved by you
Hold me 'til I sleep
I comfort you
I love you
Just stay with me while I weep
I am a child no more
Up in the world I have grown
Tall in the shadows of sadness
You left me all alone
For sixteen years I had no father
A gaping hole within my life
Throughout then I also had no mother
Only his scared and weary wife
Do no feel sorry for me
For pity is not what I crave
I've come so far all on my own
From seeking an early grave
Tear stained cheeks and hollow eyes
I love those who helped me through
I love even those who don't return the love
I love them all
And I love you
An out stretched hand falls fired to my side
I beg you to hold me close
My desperate love is nothing more
Than a thorn without a rose
I’ve come so far, my beloved friend
From darkness now toward the light
But, oh, my dear, I'm afraid to say
That this isn't even half the fight
Through lightening glares and thunder rolls
We journey on in hope
Turn off the tears of pain and fear
He taught me how to cope
My broken heart bleeds for you
A fairy tale, a dream with eyes open wide
I try so hard not to show the pain
Keep it hidden deep inside
I merely ask you to hold me tight
Through the nightmares and the tears
I ask you to hold me through the night
Through the pain and the fears
Love me always as I love you
And all will be at peace
Love me 'til the time comes for me to be released
A caterpillar I once was
Small and weak and frail
But soon I be a butterfly
To soar off through the air.
