Two Koan

by Gabriel Morningstar
 Age Group: Adult

"Bushido"
To know the sword as a single Point of light Honed to perfection To pierce the mind and thus Pierce the soul To see the void As the bridge to salvation
///
"Tea"
Sitting zazen In the parlour ten mats wide And ten mats square As a thousand cranes Fly by the window
 Author's Notes: I group these two together because they are both inspired by a combination of Buddhist Koan and post-WWII Japanese novelists. The first is inspired by my favourite short story by Yukio Mishima, entitled "Sword." The second was inspired by Yasunari Kawabata's novel "A Thousand Cranes."
