When Icarus Fell

Listen now, and listen close
I have a tale to tell.
It is one you’ve heard most often,
Yet one you do not heed well.
Icarus was but a boy
With dreams of liberty.
Flying high on wings of promise,
Much too near the sun’s brutality.
The wax that bound his dreams to him
Was quick to melt.
The descent was even quicker still.
All to well the pain he felt.
Now do you see where you’re at fault?
What you have is never what you want.
Keep reaching for the greater treasures,
More jewels for you to flaunt.
But once you reach the top,
Where else is there for you to go?
When all your audience has left,
What will be the point of the show?
Icarus rose, of course he did,
Bur remember this, and remember well:
No one was watching
When Icarus fell.
Author's Notes: This is a poem that I had to do for a school project. I think it turned out pretty well for an assigned topic. I usually don't like them too much...
