Wrath (Hurricane Sandy)

One's loss is someone's opportunity.
With this wrath their eyes melt and faces swell.
Punch lines and idle remarks are easily cast on the air;
lackadaisical observance of their weary flash,
as the irony parade entertains and empathy trends.
A spontaneous heart is kicked away by a tight laced boot.
The corner stores ask for your assistance to help alleviate the guilt
of blase head shaking.
Metaphysical hugs are the gestures in the world
spun in wrath.
Condolences from wide eye neighbors attempt to make everything ok.
The lines of the weary tug heart strings while we sip coffee;
a detached community of "glad it wasn't me" is whispered everywhere.
A sober reckoning is about to be faced squarely,
this you can not triangulate!
When you contribute your blankets and consignments,
attach a sign of strength in the action.
So those who still exhale will see clearly the moment of wrath they survived.
Admit to yourself that any day, any time, any of us can loose
everything we hold dear in a moment.
The fast and furious, angry wind changes everything.
While the water sweeps our islands clean,
we are left with the debris of memory.
In this world of wrath, no one is exempt.
