Morrigan's Dream: An excerpt from a dream sequence
Age Group: Adult
“Our recent experiences shaping our current frame of reference, recent opinions and information shaping our current perspective, changing every day and every hour, going back as far as memory allows.” …She said.
As the elderly woman approached, I watch her then turn away and back again. As she turned towards me a second time, she slowly became younger until she was only two hundred sixty moons of age. On her first blink I became aware of all the energy flowing and abiding around me, standing and swimming in it all at once. When she blinked a second time, I became nothing and strangely still felt connected to everything, I only existed as an idea. She pulled me out of her imposed hypnotic state by gently tugging on my collar bone. While holding my collar bone she pounded, with her other fist, three times on my sternum and I heard the laughter of children and the song of birds on a calm sunny day. Now I knew it was time to find the others.
As she turned away and became slowly older all the trees around us began dying, but we did not mourn for them, as the nature of trees is different than humans. Rotten her face looked as the wind blew the lines of age onto her face and her eyes became glazed. The winds last statement was to disintegrate her now ancient body into dust.
Others will be hard to find; but easily recognized, not with or without happiness but with un-contorted faces of innocence and belief in the ethereal shine. They’ll shine without want for any secure ground to stand on, as their perennial knowledge of self-worth is secure and itself grounding, despite knowing the futile nature of what we do.
When the abyss of eternity no longer has illusions to shock me it no longer stares at me; and my gaze has seen into the looping fields of substantiating solids sliding forward and looping again. After I’ve seen this enough, I truly started to understand my position and relative movement. Watching the energy in motion made me feel god-like, as a more sobering reality set in. The wind changed direction dust piled in front of me and the lines of age formed and lay into the dust to form the face of an elderly woman turning towards me and, yet again, growing younger but this time stopping half way at middle age. It pained me to see that face, not for her appearance, but that it wasn’t a complete motion as before. She spoke to remind me that as dust blows in the wind so do I.
It bothered me since then and likely always will. Seeing force in motion and only being able to mundanely manipulate it.
When I find others who can see, I’ll hopefully be able to contribute to our greater good, but I already know that so many perceptions will flood the collective and wants become conflicting.
“Which always restarts the circles, but only as far as memory allows.” Was the last thing she said to me before completing her turn, younger to a child, then an infant, then only existing as an idea.
All the light faded it was beyond the darkest shade of black I had ever seen, darkness everywhere, faint slivers of light slowly came into view appearing to be very far away. The memory of the old woman’s trance felt like it was fading into the distant past. The slivers of light grew larger to form a horizon and after opening my eyes, for what felt like the first time in decades, I realized I had been dreaming.
