Writings in the Dark

In the middle of the night
I sit and watch the rain fall down.
In silence hearing my heart beat
with the rhythm of the rain.
I've been thinking that I might
go stand outside until I drown
all the sorrow deep inside
with the falling of the rain.
Fire within me pouring sweat
into my eyes and down my face.
Seems it wasn't long ago
splashing puddles in the rain.
It's just writings in the dark,
lightning flash and pouring rain.
Writings in the dark
when there's nothing left but pain.
Writings in the dark.
Rain blows in and sun goes down.
Writings in the dark
I'm just caught up in the rain.
In the middle of the day
fog rolls in just like a shroud
covering my empty heart
keeps it from the falling rain.
When there's nothing left to say
I can't help but cry out loud
I just don't know where to start
looking for myself again.
It's just writings in the dark
biting wind and driving rain.

Grand illusions leave their mark
searing scars upon my soul.
Some will heal so I've been told
with the falling of the rain...
