Screaming in Vain

My name is Helen, and you’ll never believe
The things I can tell you, the things I can see
Demons in shadows, and demons in light
They smile all the day, and then rip you at night
They dress up like nurses in this unholy place
They stick you with needles and smile in your face
But do not be fooled, they are not so kind
They’ll split you wide open and crawl in your mind
Oh, the things they will say! The questions they’ll ask!
But they growl and they snarl behind their false masks
Because they are naught but cruel, nasty beasts
Waiting for darkness to commence with their feast
Before I came here, they wore different dress
They’d bless you and stress you and make you confess
To all your worst fears, but be not confused
For they’d use that against you, your trust they’d abuse
Two wore the skins of my father and mother
One took the guise of my dear little brother
I suspect they’re all dead now, lost in the dark
I left those false demons to bleed in the park
But these people tell me that this is untrue
That the bodies they found were people I knew
My brother and papa and mama and a boy
I think that’s the demon that took my dear Roy.
I tell you, I’m sane as the day I was born
They think I’m crazy and treat me with scorn
But I know what I’ve seen, and now you do too
Don’t let them know or they’ll come after you
And they’ll strap you down to a bed every night
They’ll leave you alone and they’ll turn out the light
And the demons will get you and rip you to shreds
They’ll thrash you and maim you and crawl in your head
They’ll skin you alive and leave you to bleed
You’ll call and you’ll beg, you’ll scream and you’ll plead.
But no one will listen, they’ll say you’re insane
They’ll leave you to darkness, to screaming in vain.
