Sanctuary

Where the grass is wet with mourning,
And the air is damp with night...
Where the mist still mingles briefly
With the day's still-gentle light...
Where even birds keep silent,
And there's a dream about the earth...
Where the horizon quickly stills
And shudders with new birth...
Where the sky explodes with color
And makes love to lingering night...
Where clouds become a lover
And take rapture to new heights...
Where time stays still and silent
For a moment, never more...
Where the world becomes my castle
Without cieling, wall, or floor...
Where dreams give way to living,
And my tears give way to pride:
That's where I stash my broken hopes,
And where my heart can hide.
