Beautiful Places

Age Group: Adult
People living, people dying
Children starving, bleeding, crying
Filthy hands, filthy faces
Hidden behind these beautiful places
Blood in the streets, blood in the home
Blood near the graveyard, dig up the bones
Of Anna Lee Pricket, a beautiful child
Trampled by boots of people gone wild
In the streets of our cities, in the halls of our homes
People gone mad over memories gone
Down the drain of the past, flushed all away
Leaving you nothing but the filth of today
Turn on the news, open your paper
Read of the killer, your local date raper
Pictures are softened in black and in white
To shield you from all of the blood at the sight
Of the crime down the street, where young Anna Lee
Was beaten and raped and left there to bleed
Did anyone hear her? Did anyone guess
At the murder next door, at the blood and the mess
That they found in the room? Did anyone care?
Or were they all scrambling for a lock of her hair
To take away as a small souvenier
Ne'er giving a thought to her pain and her fear
But that's just the way that it goes, is it not?
Burry your worries in your small flower pot
In your pots and your pans, but never stress
O'er the pain and the hurt, the gore and the mess
That is found down the streets of Every Place
That is found in the eyes upon Every Face
Where people do live, and people do die
Where children will starve, will bleed, and will cry
Where you'll find filthy hands, and find filthy faces
All hidden away behind these beautiful places.
