Breathe in. Breathe out. Each breath takes effort. You will never know the sound of her laughter, you run along panting, her soft hair swishing abundant, her flying heels you’re after. You will never know the sound of her feet that pound the earth. To tread the path to which she herself gave birth. To chase her into some unbidden wood, follow deep in the dark. To fear for but a moment that you’ve lost her, until you see the spark. Crackle crickle, a tickle a prickle, she beckons as you are basked in the glow of the flame. Hidden deep in the womb of wood you see why she brought you, the result of your strain. She has brought you to meet her lover. The two dance in a pair like stars. She twinkles he soars, she sighs, he roars, and in a moment you understand who you are. And you know as you watch them its all a secret. A secret that you have been told. She brought you here to start at the beginning. To see, the great fires of old. The fire in their passion and love for each other is undated, eternal, and true. The two have weathered eternity together in bliss. And now they want to share it with you. She holds out her hand, the flame lighting her face, her smile comforting you to draw near. He reaches his arm out to you as well, with whispers only you three can hear. Tales of centuries, past and gone, of lifetimes lived long ago. Their voices wrap warm like a blanket around you, tumbling into dreamland you go. You dream of them there, holding you softly, a mother, a father, a child. His arms so strong and heart so brave, her touch and smile so mild. A hand brushes your shoulder, another smoothes your hair, your eyes flutter and open. You glance around fearing that they’re gone, their words just your dreams had spoken. But you see them above as the sky turns from cool dusk to bright dawn. You smile and wave realizing, they never went away you see, they have been there forever all along.
