Addiction

Thumb and fingers flick
Chemical ashes fall
A kiss as I breathe in
Harshens my voice
And fills rooms with gray
No matter the disgust
Stubbornness wins
I know the number
I want the strength
But behind my eyes
Lingers a healthy lie
Whenever a stress
Whenever a jam
Venality beats my loved ones
As I choose my cancer friend
Author's Notes: This was written January 19, 2011. My creative writing professor wanted the class to write a poem about an object in our room as a homework assignment that is due 01/20. So I decided to write about my cigarettes and incorporated what they meant to me and how indirectly important they are in my life. Recently, I tried calling this phone line called 1-866-SDQuits. But I gave up on returning any of my coach's calls because my attempts at quitting smoking have been unsuccessful mostly due to the fact that I, myself do not really want to quit. I have only tried to quit because my friends and family want me to and then there's the whole health issue; which in all honesty, I am not too serious about. But here it is, so read it and weep
