Rural Teenagers

by Azurite Phox
 Age Group: Adult

Blah blah blah says our peers in the hallways. Blah blah blah says the science teacher at the board. Blah blah blah when the bell rings at three. Blah blah blah when the bus doesn’t show. Blah blah blah after mother serves the dinner. Blah blah blah after father gives a lecture.
Blah blah blah on the phone in sunshine; Blah blah blah on the phone in rain.
Blah blah blah once the dishes are finished. Blah blah blah once the trash has been taken out. Blah blah blah as the chat box pops up. Blah blah blah as the internet starts to slow. Blah blah blah so we throw rocks at windows. Blah blah blah so we watch the sky fade to pink.
Blah blah blah on the phone in sunshine; Blah blah blah on the phone in rain.
Blah blah blah we then say to the stars. Blah blah blah we then say to the field. Blah blah blah when hoping tomorrow will be better. Blah blah blah when hoping that time will fly. Blah blah blah as the sun creeps through the house again. Blah blah blah as life’s door finally opens for me.
Blah blah blah on the phone in sunshine… Blah blah blah on the days when there is no more {blah blah blah}.
Author's Notes: Wrote this February, 2011. Another English assignment that required repetition. I came up with it when I was thinking of how I was going to write a repetitive poem and then my best friend called me. She was gabbing about how life was back home on the "rez" and I realized it was the same thing she talked to me about before. All I could think of was "blah, blah, blah" because it was so boring and I remembered what life was like before moving off to college and how bored I was when drama wasn't present. I know it's not just rural teenagers that get bored but rural teenagers are probably more bored because there is not a lot to do out in the country except behave in destructive ways.
