In Among the Violets

In among the violets she stands
The fruit of her heart laid bare.
In among the shadows she stands
For the Love she calls to meet her there.
The glossy green ivy and the violets blue
Lend to her skin a pallid hue
Naked she lies - In among the violets
Sunshine sprinkles her skin
In shafts of golden light
Wrapped limb to limb they lie
In among the violets
Author's Notes: This was inspired by a riot of wild violets that took over my shrine this spring. I have a statue of the Lady as Mother (some would call her Mary) where we lay our offerings. But this particular morning, she was bathed in dappled sunlight and waist deep in violently blooming violets. It was near Beltane and it made me think of how Christ and the Magdalene are considered by most to be chaste, that they never shared a Beltane rite together, that he was Divine, not human, and not privy to the desires of the flesh or the fulfillment thereof. I thought how sad it was...and imagined my own version of the Magdalene, waiting for her Christ in amongst the wild violets on a Beltane morning. Much better I thought.
