Diddle

It saddens my heart
To see youth depart
From stories we once held so dear.
Few know the diddle
Of cat and the fiddle,
So listen now children, draw near.
A boy was so blue,
He lived in a shoe...
And fade does my memory each year.
Perhaps it was he
Who climbed up the tree...
Or was it a bean stalk, oh dear!
Well soon he fell down
And broke his poor crown...
Something's amiss I do fear.
Not horses nor men
Together again
Could fix his egg shell in a year?!?
Now be that his plight?
No, that can't be right...
Scratch that one and lend me your ear.
Oh little Bo Peep,
She lost her poor sheep.
Fear not; there is reason for cheer!
For then ole Miss Muffet,
Scared off her tuffet,
Brought curds to her friend out of fear.
That little ole spider,
Who washed out beside her...
The top of the spout he did near.
Little dogs laugh
To see such a gaff,
And now I can tell you with cheer:
Such was their laughter,
All live happily after,
Though my memory fails me I fear.
