Daughter of Darkness

by Gaia Ivorywitch
 [WVox Sponsor]
 Age Group: Adult

She runs in fields of flowers Sleeping on a carpet of grass She moves through the memory Of a young man’s heart Like a shadow reflected on glass
She quenches his thirst in the summer Feeds him wine and berries from the vine She moves through his dreams Like the other half she is A memory frozen in Time
He leaves her with the harvest Her hands covered with blood He flies free through the Gate Autumn’s bloody dew She follows on the blood red road
She is the Daughter of Darkness Hades’ ray of sunlight in the shaft of the Tomb Demeter cries as she watches Her child seduce the Underworld King
Through the Winter she sleeps by his side Frozen melodies she will sing For her eyes look ever forward to the day When the Daughter of Darkness Returns as the Maiden of Spring
She is the Daughter of Darkness Demeter’s own revenge Hade’s cannot live with her - the world suffers when she’s gone Without her love his mind is unhinged.
For a man will destroy all he touches Unable to control bloody force Until in Her his will finds a channel A sphere of Light to contain his fierce bright flame A shared goal to put his will on course.
She is the Daughter of Darkness Hades’ ray of sunlight in the shaft of the Tomb Demeter cries as she watches Her child seduce the Underworld King
Author's Notes: I'd been thinking of how women use their bodies, either with outright sex or the lure of the promise of it, to manipulate people (both men and women) into doing what they want or giving them what they want.
My thoughts wandered over the examples I personally have witnessed, and as thoughts sometimes do, I ended up on a tangent comparing the wild energy of the Maiden, and the darkness in Her that most people ignore. The myth/legend of Persephone is that she was LURED by Hades, other takes paint her as a petulant teenager that just wanted to get away from her domineering Mother. In this piece, I was thinking of her as a young woman, fully cognizant of the power of her body and using it to glamor men, or in some cases women, into doing what they want, rarely thinking of the repercussions that will occur when the 'magick' wears off and people see her for what she is.
