To Hades

Upon a ship, with Death our guide, we cross the River Styx,
With oars we churn the deep below as ash and blood so mix.
Ah, we reach that ghastly shore and Hades do we greet,
In this land where albatross and raven surely meet.
The Lord of Death, we thought so cruel, is not quite as we dream.
A gentle love, do we perceive, within his eyes that gleam?
A peaceful grin upon his face, he beckons us now home,
Leading us unto a gate upon the path we roam.
Does judgment wait now at this gate? Beware the hound of Hell!
No hound there be, just mirrors three, enchanted with a spell.
What was…What is… What soon must be… we skry upon the glass.
With lessons learned, from bridges burned, now through Death’s gate we pass.
Behold the throne, and on it sits the Lord who rules the realm.
Lo’ a lady Springtime fair now crowns him with his helm.
The kingdom fades, invisible; Kore leads us from the lair.
With life we now emerge, like seeds, within the springtime air.
The seasons pass. The wheel it turns, ‘til winter brings the frost;
But Death shall come, for in his land, naught is ever lost.
