The Heretic to the Once Born

When they ask me what I believe,
I choke on my reply
For who can capture the silence
Made by the wings of a butterfly?
When they ask me how I know
That I have lived before,
Do I tell them I remember
That long ago they stood at my door?
When they demand I prove existence
Of a Mother so Divine,
Do I point to their Christ
And tell them She is the Wine?
When they ask me what I believe
So much could be said
I could tell them of the hearbeat
From the stars in the heavens overhead.
They cannot see and will not listen
To my testimony of life
All they see is a crazy woman
In the garden with her knife.
All they see is a heretic
All they know is what they are taught
Hate is in their hearts and minds
And gives evil to their thoughts.
So I will tell them nothing
Hold close my sacred deeds
For to my sorrow only nonsense
To their impression feeds.
For the life of a Witch is different
We walk a different path
We dream a new reality
We fear not our Creator’s wrath
Two paths intersect betimes
And they always part again
For though the Witch sees only wonder
The once born sees only sin.
So I will be their heretic
Let them cast their stones
Put me on the bonfire
And let my soul sail away home
