A Circle Cant

Thirteen in circle
Hoods cover heads
Sway and chant arms laced as buckle
Marching, marching, marching til we go to our beds
All is somber wrapped in lace
Dance, dance, dance all in one place
Sing this chant and cover face
All together now keep the pace
Swing and sway and raise your hands
Stomp and hop and bend in two
Flow, flow, flow goes the time of sands
Swirling deeply round and round and all down through
Til at last comes the shout
Sore higher and higher to do our will
Release the energy, ti’s what it’s about
Then when all is done we all stand still
Author's Notes: The Word “Cant” in the title has everything to do with the meaning of this poem. I mean no harm to any, but sometimes it all seems foolish to me.
