Tree Spirit

I first trodded upon this path,
when I heard a tree cry in pain.
They were cutting it down,
and I didn't understand why,
I cried as the tree spirit died.
Later I realised what had happened,
the tree was in the way,
so it had to come down.
If this is a part of progress,
then I don't want a part of it,
leave the tree spirits be,
even if you can't feel or see them.
Author's Notes: This event happened while I was crossing a bridge in a rural town in Poland. I was 16 at the time. Appearently workers were cutting down trees that were in the way of the railroad being expanded. This event had sparked my interests in Gaia and spirits. I will never forget what happened that day, for it has opened my eyes and mind to the world unseen.
