Like Echoes In The Dark

I wrote many a little blog
And posted them online
Edited and corrected them
Every word of them was mine.
I found other writers I did like
There upon that posting site
I really truly liked their work
So encouragement I did write.
Yes, I always offered encouragement
To those writers to whom I’d go
That I honored and respected their gifts
I really tried very hard to let them know.
Now words, they carry great power
Something of which all writer’s are aware
They can cause both good or ill
And must be used with great care.
Some words given can cause great pain
And doubt of self in a writer to grow
But so too can kind words withheld
That same self doubt cause a writer to know.
When a writer reaches out to the world
Sharing a story, no matter how simple it seems
They are really sharing a small piece of their hearts,
Their souls, their hopes and their dreams.
For every story the writer shares
A small piece of each of those things it contains
And when their sharing goes unacknowledged
Of those things only ashes remains.
When I would read the words of writer’s I liked
I always had kind, encouraging words to say
I subscribed to all that I favored.
I canceled most of those subscriptions today.
Comment after comment would fill my inbox
Marching in a flowing never ending line
But oh the despair when I would realize
That readers never seemed to like mine.
The acceptance that those I had followed
So very easily and readily received
Left me wondering within my weary heart
If all along myself I have deceived.
Did I even have anything truly to say
About which the world would even care?
Did anyone even read the words
That I did post and share?
Were my words so dead and boring
That they were barely read at all?
Simply floating in cyber space, unnoticed
Like a bird’s song on deaf ears does fall?
I do not need or seek high words of praise
Merely a few kind words to light the spark
Of hope for a heart whose voice is seemingly only heard
Like echoes floating soundlessly in the dark.
Most writer’s have very busy lives
Of this I am very fully aware
But if you read my simple words
At least let me know you were there.
Author's Notes: This was written after spending over six months of trying my best to fit into a writing site I once belonged to. I would always leave a positive comment on the writers work, if only to say "good job", but out of the eleven that decided to follow me, and the fact that the counter showed that people were reading, i received precisely three comments in those six months, two of which i had to delete due to their cruelty.
