The Goddesses Grief

The Goddess gazed down upon the earth
Her eyes filled up with grief stricken tears
She watched as man destroyed more and more
With his greed driven progress through the years.
She watched as man built his mighty cities
As he destroyed creatures and fields and streams
She watched as man poisoned both water and air
In the pursuit of his selfish and greedy dreams.
She watched as man ruthlessly destroyed the animals
That in her care she did so lovingly protect and hold
And with grief she watched him blast open the land
In his relentless search for gemstones, minerals and gold.
And as she watched man's destruction continue
Her grief caused dark clouds to fill earth's skies
And mighty rains came flooding down
As tears fell from her heartbroken eyes.
Her pain was so deep and mighty
That the earth itself did shake
Causing floods and tidal waves
Leaving destruction in their wake.
The sound of her wounded and shattering heart
Echoed as thunder in the air
Sometimes the pain would become so great
She would cover her face with clouds in despair.
And then, amidst man's darkness
A few bright lights began to gleam
As more and more began to seek her
Granting her heart a gladdening beam.
And as more and more sought her wisdom
And to follow her bright lit way
A tiny light of hope and joy
Did once more in her heart begin to play.
She had thought that man had forgotten her
But it appeared that she had been wrong
And as she opened her arms to those seekers
Her heart once more filled with song.
