The Old Gods

The old gods are awakening
And as they look around
At all of man's destruction
Their faces begin to frown.
The old god's gaze upon a landscape
Filled with pollution, corruption and trash
They hear the cries of the earth's creatures
And their ancient eyes begin to flash.
The old gods hear the cries of creature, land and trees
As man destroys them from greed at every turn
And as the old gods view this wanton destruction
Their rage grows and begins to hotly burn.
The old gods see man in his endless greed
Poison air, land and stream with each passing day
And finally the old gods have had enough
They decide that for his crimes man must pay.
But the old gods in their great wisdom
Withhold from showing on all their wrath
For they have observed that here and there
Are ones who seek to follow their path.
Yes, the old gods see that here and there
Are ones that seek the wisdom of yore
These special ones seek the knowledge
Of those who went before.
The old gods watch as these special ones
Day by day in number grow
And as they old gods watch this occur
A spark of hope for man in their heart does grow.
But still the old gods send out many warnings
Via tsunami, flood and tidal wave
Cleansing waters that scour and purify
And send many unsuspecting to their grave.
The old gods continue to send their warnings
In volcanic eruptions and lightening strike fire
Telling man if he doesn't straighten up his act
The consequences are going to be most dire.
Even more warnings the old gods send
Landslide, tornado, earthquakes and more
All telling man that if he does not begin to take care
The old gods will step in and settle the score!

Author's Notes: A little verse that I composed based on my ever stronger growing feeling that the rise in the number of the earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tidal waves, tsunami's, floods, and other natural disaster in the past four or five years is a sign that the old gods are awakening, and they definitely are not happy with what man has done with their gift to him!
