I Feel Your Pain

I wanna know that you’re all right,
I wanna know that your okay.
Last time I talked to you,
It sounded like the beginnings of a rough day.
I had talked to you for a long time.
But when you answered the phone,
It sounded like you were hurting.
Like you felt that you were all alone.
I wanted to comfort you right then and there,
To make you feel okay.
I wanted to hold you in my arms,
To see that you live another day.
You said you’d call me later,
With a voice full of glum.
You didn’t sound like yourself,
Nothing like my old chum.
My heart did a flip-flop,
For you I could feel.
Your pain was ripping a whole in me,
A pain that was very real.
I hung up the phone,
And kissed the caller I.D. lightly.
I wanted it to reach you,
I wanted to hug you tightly.
Your pain I was feeling,
I didn’t know if it was real or not.
If I was imagining the hurt in your voice,
This feeling I would never have sought.
