Waiting for Night

I wait for night to arrive on its black, velvet wings,
Such poetry it inspires, such magick that it brings!
I wait for the night quite impatiently sometimes,
Longing for the perfect, peaceful quiet, so sublime.
I wait, though it always lives inside of my heart
In sunlight or in moonlight, its secrets do impart.
If I listen very closely, if I do not make a sound...
I can feel its heart beating in the air all around.
As it creeps ever closer, opaque fingers claim the sky
And smothers it with dark kisses as it tells the day goodbye.
Ever willing to give up sunlight, yet for one moment more
With the darkness that surrounds me, the darkness I adore.
