Chased by the Daylight

The day is fast approaching. It actually arrived while I was writing. It can be sneaky that way. Now it stands peeking through my blinds, waiting...I know what it's waiting for. My imminent retreat from the light. Well. It won't be disappointed. I shall pull the deep wine curtains together so that the light cannot slip inside...then slip between cold sheets and lie my head on the cold pillow and let the weariness of the last 24 hours wash over me completely. Hoping to find the fast path to unconsciousness this time...to clear the cobwebs, to replenish my energy, to restore my motivation to keep up this meaninglessness...
The music is soft but relentless in it's beat ... my heart will feel comforted by that beat ... the sounds of humanity waking and leaving the house, leaving the neighborhood, leaving me alone in the semi-dark room ... pushing back the light and succumbing to the dreams I never remember anymore.
I'm thinking the smell of cinnamon is still in the air from the candles that have been burning for hours upon hours. I am thinking of extinguishing all the candles and the lights ... and closing my eyes ... feeling myself spinning ... feeling my perpetually stinging eyelids close. Willing my heart to slow down. Willing the world to go away. Just for a little while.
