What keeps me awake?

The sounds of the night . . .
Sometimes it's almost as if the very sounds themselves are calling me:
the crickets
the frogs
the nightbirds
the wind in the trees
the leaves as they twist and turn in the gentle night breeze
the clouds as they slip by the moon
the whispering grasses brushing against gray tree trunks
the spiders passionately weaving their webs
the ancient stars twinkling brilliantly cold
the ambient heat as it softens and warms the sidewalks
the puddles of rain that fell so far to earth today just to bring heaven's greetings
the creaking of the iron gate across the street that gets tangled in the wisteria vine and won't latch
the black cat and the gray cat that traverse the wooden fence out back singing to the moon
the flowers whose petals sigh quietely closed until the morning sun kisses them awake
the windchimes of seachells and and silver stars
the whispering of all things dark and lonely and that know my name well
sometimes it 's dawn before they all share their stories . . .
and while I listen to their stories I conjure my own insomniavisions
encompassing them all into my own little world
where lucid meets surreal
