To Dust We Return

I understand the isolation
I can relate to the pain
I feel comfort in the darkness
Run out to rejoice in the rain
As it washes the earth...
Briefly I can smell what still should be...
Perfection destroyed by petty greed
Timeless trees felled to fuel a bonfire
We slip in the mud, feeling a childish happiness
Till we remember civilization's stain
We leave the forest downhearted...
Where is yesterday's magic??
Concrete and glass, asphalt and steel
Will there be nothing left of the real world
Nothing for our children to worship?
Love remains the last free gift
But confused with lust we groan...
Is that all there is?
We ache for more, yet don't know for what
We seek darkness to soothe our eyes
We shut our ears to meaningless words
Wishing for someone to rise up and say
"The emperor's wearing no clothes!"
But no one ever does...
Not in this horribly politically correct nightmare
That never ends
Fake friends, fake breasts, fake money
Where does it end?
Who cares where you bought your stupid jeans...
Oh God I feel so empty
