My Heart

by Rose'Ena Tanu
 Age Group: Adult

Where, oh my heart, do you hide? In pits of darkness, Or in blinding light? Hidden in books, Or words of voice, Of song on wing, Or art of paint, Sculpture of stone, Or carvings of wood, Of birds of paper? In ice Or in fire, In dreams, Or in the hands of another?
Help me, oh my heart, to find you. Send some sign, Give me a clue. We are one but actually two. Bring us together, Make the two back into one. Find me the one whom I must find, Find the heart that attracts you. Make of two bodies, him and me, Become what the gods intended us to be. Make us one, Two souls to single.
Do not hide, oh my heart. I need to be whole. Make my soul complete. Come out Of the book, Of the voice, Of the song, Of the paint, And stone, And wood, And paper. Come out Of the ice Or the fire Or the dreams. Come out of the other’s hands.
Oh my heart, come out Of the darkness Or blinding light. Show yourself to me. Let me see the inside of me. Take my mind out of confusion. Oh my heart, Please! Do not hide from me.

Author's Notes: This is one of several poems I unearthed while looking through some of my stuff… I wrote them back when I was in middle school and in high school. Reading over them again, I can see some of the same messages that I write today. And I see that some of these, I was writing things I did not understand… then. Since coming into what I am, I can see the magic speaking through these rather childish words. Amazing how things seem to repeat, isn’t it?
This one still holds... I haven't yet figured out how to bring down all the barriers I built to keep some part of myself safe from the torments of my childhood. That means I have a great deal of trouble feeling emotions besides pain, hurt, anger, and sometimes rage. I'm working on it. Maybe once I get those walls down, I'll find the one that I know is out there for me...
