Can There Be Peace?

by Rose'Ena Tanu
 Age Group: Adult

Always all I seem to hear, Is of another death, And more to fear. But can we ever move forth? For these few weeks, The Games hold the world tight But always it is dimmed by freaks And those who can’t stop the fight. Too many soldiers wait to come home Though they try to not be sad Too far and long are they alone In places where peace cannot seem to be had. Bombers kill themselves, Trying to prove some fanatical point. But they take innocence and delve Beyond any mark, any feint. Can we ever find peace? Or will we always fight over pinpricks? I just want to know some release From these religious nitpicks. But till Man can learn That no matter what we look like, how we believe, We don’t need to burn! I offer the peace leaf, But the others must accept it Or my attempt means nothing. I have no desire to be hit But I’m tired of watching others crying. Please, can we find some mean? Some balance where violence fades away? I’m tired of seeing the others demean And wondering if we can find a way. There just has to be Somewhere, someway out there Maybe we just can’t see But it must exist, and hopefully not too far. I pray to all the Powers that Be That some day Humans can find that way, May it be soon! So Mote it be!

Author's Notes: I love to Watch the Olympics. For what they represent, even if people only seem to focus on the scandals about medal awards and drugs... But for these few weeks, there is something showing that we can all be together, in one place, without violence! Without hurting each other! Why can't we take this lesson beyond the Games? To those places that are so torn by war and death? Our world could be so very much better, if we took these ideals back to all our homes, everywhere. I may be an American, but I hate seeing all this violence everywhere. I have friends across the globe, not from this site, but still... They're out there... No matter how different we are, we are friends. How I wish that my friends and I could be at least some small example of what could be, but I doubt it ever will. People seem too set in this violent course. I hope and pray for change, but I know one tiny voice can't be heard over the clamour. Maybe if we all banded together we could be heard over the ruckus, the fighting... Someday...
