Mirror-Moon

My eyes cannot fix upon that vaguely bobbing orb, rippling and shimmering
Ducking and weaving, reflected from the dome.
That which is reflected pulls that which reflects to wash over my bare toes
who pause in their exploration of the sand.
And far in the back of my head, the depiction floats of distant bays and Mirror-Moons.
The Merfolk beckon and I must pull away
Or
Be lost in the siren chant of endless cavalry,
Rank upon rank of tritons charging the beach unwittingly, only to be destroyed.
And I answer, I must lose my soul to those dark voices.
To touch that bobbing Mirror-Moon…
It is my downfall yet calls me with such passion, such life.
I am no triton, for tritons when they shatter upon the shore do reinvent themselves
and come again once more to get and give their beating.
I can hardly reinvent my soul yet must
For in recline is all that can resist that siren song, that merman chant
The calling of that Mirror-Moon and the ebbing pull of that which is reflected.
