Grateful

Joy and sorrow,
Pleasure/ pain,
Warmth of sunlight on my face,
Cool damp of unpredicted rain,
Tumbled maps and scattered plans.
This is not what I had seen -
How the road did bend and twist.
Had I been the one to drive the dream,
Had the plans been ones that I had laid.
So much beauty would I have missed,
So many mistakes would not have been made.
But life would not have been as rich,
And my lessons not so hard and real -
Truths I learned reluctantly,
Faults I did not want to see,
Tears I shed like bitter rain
Washed clean and shown a better me -
Yes, I am brighter for the pain.
Now the Goddess looks and smiles,
and nods with wisdom knowingly -
How many things I've learned that I
Would not have seen or done or been,
Had the work of life been by my plan.
So grateful, tearful,
Filled with awe,
I thank you Goddess for your love,
and your wisdom and beauty and bounteous care.
Life is beautiful,
Life is love,
Around the wheel,
I'll meet you there,
And grateful will I ever be.
