No Requiem

The casket was closed.
The grievers sat
according to rank
of imagined importance
The Organ wailed
in minor keys
it sighed
at a Catholic funeral
the mourners don’t cry
the priest shouts hellfire
cautioned us of sin
took time to lecture us
(sheep and wolves)
as long as we were there
The casket was closed.
The body, the shell
had a hole
like a snail
slowly devouring a sea-star
Holey body
won’t weep anymore
the wound had finally
stopped bleeding
The casket was closed.
We wonder:
Maybe there wasn’t
A person in there
Nobody
No Body.
