A Rose Amid Orchids

I walk through fields of sorrow,
Of poppies and orchids.
The ravens wait for me,
Cawing their shrill cries,
Do they speak to me in freedom?
I look behind me upon the paths I've trod,
Loneliness fills me.
What happened to those whom were my friends?
Where have they gone?
Has the specter of time washed them from the silken tapestry of reality?
Removed from my life as if they had never lived,
But their memories live on in my heart and my soul.
Is This the path to immortality?
No more looking back,
No more longing for that time,
Close your eyes and allow the past to flow away like a leaf down a babbling brook.
What was it that Huxley said?
"When the doors of perception are cleansed, things appear as they truely are, Infinante."
Seek freedom my son,
The old man says to the young boy.
Can one find freedom in a bottle?
The child of innocence asks.
No my son, in freedom you will find love.
What then, is Love?
The bewildered child asks.
A rose amid orchids,
Replied the old one.
