My Special Place

Age Group: Adult
Small child with big imagination
Had a portable secret spot.
You can't see me if I can't see you!
Sounds logical under Antique quilt.
On a fine day,
quilt is:
Butterfly wings,
parachute,
Or winged beast of legend!
Here I am safe from Boogey-man
Pirates,
growing up.
Humidity of breath makes heat
Maybe a blow hole would help
But any light streaming in
Could cause Boogey-man to find me
Alone and quiet
under the quilt.
A glow in the dark sticker
-Or seven-
being the only light
I carefully make way
To the depths of the toy box
In search of a favorite Friend
Who should have been thrown away
Years ago.
Author's Notes: What is that favorite thing from your childhood that you should have thrown away? For me it was one of my baby blankets--really someone made it for me when I was 4, but when I was 9 the dog chewed it to ribbons. You can't even use it as a blanket anymore, and the fluff is all pushed to one corner. But I still keep it around. Haven't even tried to fix it. Can't explain why, either.
