Beloved Mountain

by Taliesin

Age Group: Adult

Awakening into the light of darkness

I understand that

forever here I have been

surrounded,

compressed,

by that which is not myself.

I don’t know how I am different

or why,

only that I am…

A chrysalis of gold,

Encapsulated,

within the divinely sculpted beauty

of a Mountain;

A secret veil of stone

Plainly seen,

ever keeping it’s secret

that here I lay.

In my desire to know more,

A gentle slumber comes

to Caresses me into a deep sleep,

and I Suddenly slip into a dream.

As I penetrate the mists of clarity

I become aware that,

there is a place

where my dark Bastille of stone

kisses another world

I have never before seen.

I sense warm light

just beyond the mountains hem,

and long to feel it upon my face.

My thoughtful silence is broken

by sounds inching ever closer,

just beyond my dark enclosure

the volume growing,

roaring,

pounding,

closer yet still

scraping,

raping through the earth around me,

it reeling in pain.

In a sudden final blow

a burst of light blinds me

and the darkness vanishes.

I hear voices.

“I’ve found you…Gold!!”

Dirty hands reach in

ripping me from the mountain’s flesh

freeing me from the blackness

of my existence.

Light… so warm.

I suddenly feel wanted

Purposeful, loved.

For this I have waited

A billion years or more.

But as I am raised up,

greedy hands show me off.

I look back to glimpse the place

from whence I’ve been taken,

to see my mountain weeping in despair.

The mountain cries out in agony

As it’s soul is ripped fourth

No!! Don’t let them take you my love!!

Only I alone can contain your loveliness!!

Your beauty will destroy them!

It will lay waste to their world!

My body is then broken

and splintered across the world.

And in my dream I am lifted into the heavens

to look down upon the earth

and observe.

It’s so beautiful, so green, so faultless!

Was I inside this splendor?

As I watch my broken pieces

spread over the world,

Something terrible begins to happen.

All the trees are laid waste in a wild fury

Sawing, cutting, cracking,

slamming to the ground.

Great harpoons penetrate the earth

To release its dark blood;

Gushing fourth in great fountains,

flooding the world with madness.

Hearts of kings

by my beauty

are paralyzed

hoarding me for themselves

as cold dark streets

spill over with broken souls

with nowhere to go.

My shards become

an invisible prison

Of commerce and commodity

and economic despair,

where, I am never enough;

pulled through humanity

into vast reservoirs from which

only the few can drink.

For the love of God

the innocencent die,

and oceans of tears drain

from the eyes

of Crying children,

with no mother to feed them

or father to love them,

for they are dead.

Hate spreads from

their tender hearts.

Beautiful water runs with poison

And on air once crisp and clear

lungs fill with mud.

How can beauty cause such desolation?

Such madness?

In my despair,

I can take no more

And in anguish

I cry to my beloved

Mountain!!!!!!

Suddenly I awake

From this terrible dream,

Into the beauty of my darkness

My pieces made whole;

Resting comfortably

in bosom of my mountain

my cradle of stone and earth.

The joy of oneness

Fills my soul.

The greatness of a mountain

gives value to a little gold;

The Quantity of sameness

quality to a speck distinction.

My beloved mountain

never let me go,

ever let me be your secret,

safe in your embrace.

Never let them find me here.
