Heart of Truth

Age Group: Adult
Thirsty tears bleed out from my soul like
a rainbow colored waterfall,
gliding through the air
over the edge of my heart;
falling to the ground like lead.
With my heart lighter now,
I can see more clearly than before.
But it was easier being blind,
resting safely in the joy of my lie,
a place in which I could have slept forever,
but for truth, waking me in it’s timely fashion
to rise unto the work of the path.
This has ever been my food,
dining at the table of ruin,
time and time again
tired and weak from my own way.
I wake in death each time I rise from
a dream of wholeness
which is nowhere but here,
the charade of there
hanging like a thick smoke
choking out all reason.
My dreams claw at me
to feed them
yet my cupboard is empty
of the sweet lucidity they crave;
displaced by the spacious
actuality that life brings.
