Living in two worlds
Bridging earth and sky
Splitting bark to
Peek tender faces
Out into the early morning
Nourished by the sun,
connected to the earth.
Waxy stem connected to
willowy branch connected to
pale bark and heartwood and
gnarled roots worming deep
into the bedrock at our feet.
Cool breezes set us
winking and flashing
sun-struck emeralds.
Moonlight turns us to
rustling silver as we
bow our heads
to the night things
creeping below.
Time washes the
color from our faces
to reveal
a new beauty.
