I lie here waiting

I lie here waiting,
Looking, staring at this empty space
This place that lies next to me,
The very place where you should be
but you are not here.
They keep us apart,
The ones that call themselves your family,
And would have you marry to another
For their own cruel self interest, icy cold.
Would you do such a thing?
Sacrifice yourself to keep our secret,
our *Sigheh from being known?
Crystal clear rivers of salt
That flow from my hearts ocean,
Carve their way down my face
at the thought of this death to such a love,
The love we know we have
Yet is unknown to all others
that you might keep your life.
Trapped between the fates,
Between that of desire and love
beyond the *Czar’s chocolate
and cold dark tradition
that would swallow our love whole
if it would be allowed to.
My beloved, please throw not our love
Into the waiting mouth of vultures
that scour and scavenge
all love from our dying world,
to be with one that loves you not
but has the advantage of the approval of scavengers.
Rather, let the mirror within yourself
Guide you safely into my arms

*The Czar's chocolate refers to Dilettante Chocolate founded by a family of Russian chocolateers. They have a wonderful Chocolate restaurant on Broadway here in seattle Washington.
