Just a cup of coffee

by J. Sandy
 Age Group: Adult

Just a cup of coffee
How can I ever tell you how I feel? Mere words are dull and clumsy messengers of the cathedral heights of feelings which your perfect being evokes in me each time I see you, or when I hear the crystal beauty of song full of warm tones which is your voice. If beauty there be in human creations none can compare to the touch of your smile, the delicate symmetry of your lips, or those eyes whose smiles sing silent lullabies. When we are together the easy confidence of your words and laughter-- your casual, almost unkempt hair, speaks of innocent abandon while inviting a touch, a caress, to touch the smooth texture of your cinnamon-cream skin as breathless with a chill, I am enveloped with the excitement of your mere presence. Then, when I can bear it no longer, I spot the playful smile in your eyes. Eyes which irresistibly drew me in laying my whole self open and defenseless. Those eyes which one day opened well-guarded secret possibilities which I had not dared to entertain. Those eyes, so inviting, tell stories. Or are they merely fairytales? How can I tell you how I feel? How can I convey the urgent irrepressible expectation of the scent and feel of your embrace? How can I ever tell you how I feel? Then, as if by stroke of genius, I look up at you and ask: "Care to have a cup of coffee with me?"

Author's Notes: What is this hughe gap between the inner spirit, and the drudgery which makes up most of our lives? Will I, or anyone, be able to say everything we so desperately wish to say, by simply asking: "Care to have a cup of coffee with me?" This, to me, is one of the perenial mysteries of the human condition. Today I hope to reach out beyond coffee to anyone who has ever felt this way! May we meet with smiles of mutual understanding. Whoever you may be, know this: I love you.
