WINTERSONG

Beneath Aurora’s radiant dance, beyond these hills of white, past forest and field, cast moonlit blue, I wander through the night.
Past sleeping trees adrift in snow, by woodlands, still and dark; serenity of winter’s grace consoles my weary heart.
For nearby, hidden in the pines, beneath the barren Oak, encircled by the Holly King, I glimpse a wisp of smoke.
Inside, a fragrant fire burns; my cottage, warm and bright: the ebb and flow of season’s change is marked this Solstice night.
I shed my garb, and shake the frost that burdened heart and soul, take refuge from the dreaming forest and end my midnight stroll.
Outside my door, the slumbering stag and fleeting hare still roam; at journey’s end, I muse on them, from warmth of hearth and home.
With dance of candle, warmth of flame, the Sabbat has begun. The Yuletide Moon drifts overhead; the Winter is undone.
Cernunnos comes; the Oak King wakes, as Holly King retreats. The woodland stirs, the Wheel doth turn, the circle is complete.
To sleep, anon! To dream perchance, by crackling firelight, beneath Aurora’s radiant dance, amongst these hills of white.
‘Tis Winter’s way, to bless the earth, then cede the way to Spring. By hearth’s warm glow, I slip away, to join the Holly King...
