Phantomlight (A Candle in a Forest Aflame)

by Michael
 Age Group: Adult

PHANTOMLIGHT (A Candle in a Forest Aflame) Original Sept. 13th, 1990 – Updated Sept 29, 2010 By A. Michael Kundu
"So o'erspread with phantom light" (a wistful bard once scribed) * the gibbous Moon above the fields with sweet Venus contrived to crest upon the stellar wind and still an eve or two, in whispered tones, they contemplate this veil they now construe. So shear and yet mysterious, the light that shields our globe from other and more wondrous worlds, which through the darkness probe and cast their learned, cosmic eyes upon our humble sphere, In profound curiosity Unearthly wisdoms peer. Instead they see this feeble glow our fragile world surround, which veils us from the universe, and mysteries profound. A candle in a forest aflame: our efforts are in vain; we thrust our feeble insolence in tactics most profane. "Alas! This little speck of dust...” (the learned Moon doth cry) “Methinks will end in misery!" (a tear wells in her eye) . "And all the wondrous gifts bestowed, Oblivion will claim. 'Tis sad to think that we above bear witness to this shame!" "Wise Mother! (Venus, in response, exalts into the night) , Although this world will be no more what shall come of its light? This phantom glow that resonates, must memory possess: perchance its seen the wickedness of human recklessness!" "Be still, dear child..." (the aged Moon, in all her wisdom soothes) “The gifts bestowed on humankind, so thoughtlessly misused… This feeble glow we witness now, doth mark the fall of Man: T’was prophesized to end this way, Long ‘fore their time began. Perchance this world, and all its kind Oblivion will rule; Yet still will live the Universe a little less the fool. For as it ends, this world of pain will cast its sullen glow, and through the distant galaxies this nebulae will flow. Adrift in vast and endless space for all the stars to see... to ride upon the stellar winds, a fiery legacy...."
