A Perfect Day In The Northwest

by Life is a Dance Regardless
 Age Group: Adult

I sit cross-legged on my Technicolor pillow At peace Lulled by the sound of the rain Even though the Sun shines through the clouds I sit And from my Technicolor pillow I observe my garden I have nurtured my garden My chives Chocolate mint Oregano Bulbous garlic My sage, rosemary, and thyme They have miraculously survived the winter cold And wake as the light returns What will my garden look like this summer? I want corn, butternut and acorn squash Potatoes I want tomatoes I want to add basil to my herb garden And marigolds to the front walk I want to eat blueberries, grapes, figs and apples All the wonderful things we already have thriving I really must cut back the blackberry vines Stop them from attacking my figs As I sit on my Technicolor pillow I observe my life My love My ability to show people their strength Their beauty The ways in which they change my life I have planted seeds and watched them grow And those seeds that have grown within myself I can feel them reaching towards the light I was loved and nurtured by my own friends and family And now, dear heart, it is time for me to pass that love on to you I have played many parts in my time I have acted as therapist, sister, friend, and lover Daughter, companion, doting aunt Rock My love, I am to give you the best gift I have to give I give of myself I will be here whenever you need me Whatever you need Ask it of me Though it is my duty to you, my love It is my pleasure to give precisely what you need I have nurtured But you, my love, must understand that you are your own flower I can only provide warmth, water, and light You are my love My life And my Technicolor pillow Will act as our magic carpet As I take you on a journey of discovery Discovery of yourself And by the end you will have bloomed More beautiful and more unique than any flower I’ve seen Because I love you
Author's Notes: I began thinking of my age, 19 years, and just how much I had really achieved with it. I've done so much and been so much. I was thinking of how angry I've been getting at people who tell me I know nothing about life, simply because I have not existed as long as they have. I wanted to write something that might make me feel tranquil, accomplished, and accepting, rather than hurt and angry. I know who I am and I know what I am capable of. No one, not even an elder who disrespects my abilities can take that away from me.
