Guidance, Divine

I went to the river, and the river spoke words, but the sound of the rushing water hid them from me. I went to the mountain, and though I listened I did not hear the timeless words, deep and slow. I went to the forest and heard the rustle of the trees and the song of birds, but I expected words, words which never came. Out in the endless plains I spoke to the sky above. I asked for directions, but I ignored the path of the sun, the moon, the clouds and the wind. I heard no directions, only the noise of my own thoughts. I went to the seashore, but only heard the cry of the seagulls and the roar of the surf. I went to the city and I heard a multitude of words over words, shouts over shouts, frantic contradictions full of doubt, fear, and despair. In a corner, in silence, I went to my heart... and I heard the words of the river, the mountain, the forest, the sky, the sea, my neighbors, and the words of Divinity all lighting my path. I am still learning to listen. I am grateful for the daily words.
